A Step Back In Time Heatherwood Covered Walkway

Welcome to Heatherwood in picture. This page carries some photo's of Heatherwood Hospital, covered walkway.

The original covered walkway which consisted of steel frame and glass roof, can be seen between wards 1 to 3,Wooden panelling seen in the lower half was added some years later.

When wards 4 & 5 were added, the walkways that joined to the existing wards, was of wooden construction and had a flat roof.

Where possible we have detailed some information about the pictures.
This is just a snapshot of the covered walkway over the years.

Walkway Pictures 1 to 12

These pictures were taken in 2005 and display a walk round the covered way starting from ward 2.

Walkway Video's 13 & 14

These video's of wards 3 & 5 display the different types of walkway in 2016.

Heatherwood Covered Walkway 2005

The covered walkway until last year was open all the way round but in the last eighteen months they have changed the sides to incorporate windows and prevent the wind and rain blowing through. The section between wards 4 and 5 were the first to be converted, the walkway by wards 2 and 1 are still in various stages of conversion.

During the summer months the walkway is normally decked out with hanging baskets.

The conversion of the walkway to include windows into the side panels was completed shortly after pictures from 2005 were taken. The walkway between ward 3 & 5 however was not included in the conversion.

The videos added, items 13 & 14 show evidence of the walkways of both the steel and wooden versions.
