This is just a snapshot of the hospital EMI unit over the years.
The Emi unit located at the rear of the hospital was completed in 1988 at a cost of £45 million pounds.This is located in very much a woodland setting and blends in well with the surroundings.
The official opening was by Princess Anne .
The building consisted of three wards at the start 11,12,14. Later on modifications created a ward 15.
The building catered for medical infirmed patients and mental health issues.
2014 All mental health beds are transferred to prospect park in Reading to save money.
In 2018 the former mental health block at Heatherwood hospital, the Emi unit, which had stood empty for some years, was converted into offices for staff and trusts headquarters at a cost of £3.5m. The name was changed to Greenwood offices.
Heatherwood EMI Unit 1999
The pictures 15 to 18 display various views as part of a project for Radio Heatherwood to site a Low Power Am aerial on the access road at the rear of the EMI unit, this would have delivered a freely radiating AM signal to the whole site. It was abandoned after the trust pulled the plug in favour of patient power project(TV Phone & Radio at Bedhead)
It's worth noting the landscaping hadn't obscured the building at this stage.
