Ward 16 Closes
Ward 16 was provided in 2002, after bed spaces in the EMI unit had to be relinquished for mental health beds. A temporary building was provided in the centre green between wards 3 and 5.
As early as June 2007 ward 16 which provided acute care for stroke patients was earmarked to be closed and the patients moved to ward 10, this however would be a loss of 15 acute beds.
The financial problems for the trust, seal the fate of the ward and at the end of May 2009 the ward was closed and the building taken down and re-assembled at Wexham.
It's a sad day for staff and patients with the loss of yet more beds at Heatherwood.
This page captures the return of the centre green to landscaping after the ward is removed.
What makes Heatherwood appreciated by those that work or have had a stay, is the pleasant surroundings of the gardens and the serenity of the location.
