Roy Ryman Writes:-
The League of friends was formed in February 1958 by members of the local business community and members of Ascot Rotary club. The League had given over 61 years of dedicated service to Heatherwood hospital. It was run on a totally voluntary basis and it was very rewarding for our volunteers to see patients and staff in all wards and departments benefit from our fundraising efforts and dedication.
Our fundraising activities, through careful management enabled us to donate to the hospital, gifts of vital equipment, staff welfare support and care and support for patients, to the value of £475,194.81 in over 472 Projects.
We are indebted for the support we have had from the general public and the companies and organizations over the years.
The League incorporated Radio Heatherwood as an entirely voluntary service. The members of which give radio broadcasts including music requests and dedications, to the various wards and departments within the hospital. From the feedback we received this service was most appreciated. Radio Heatherwood endeavoured to alleviate the unfortunate circumstances of any patient hospitalized. The dedication of the volunteers of Radio Heatherwood was a vital and excellent service to the hospital.
The aims of the league was always to ensure patients and staff of Heatherwood hospital receive the best possible support.
We will raise our glasses to the volunteers and all the locals who helped us to remain a band aid for 61 years at Heatherwood Hospital.
