Summer 2006
Work has commenced on the building of new staff accommodation and housing at Heatherwood. Part of the new development will include a new laundry which will be run by the league of friends.
The new development will include the name of Ruby Brook former school teacher who taught at the hospital from the 1940's till 1965.Ruby Brook School Teacher Heatherwood Hospital.

The league of friends and members of the trust attended the official opening of the discharge lounge and cardiac monitoring unit on ward 10 today. The league donated £48,000 for the project. For more info

May 2006
The league of friends web site offers a new service to visitors. The league will now allow visitors to it's web site to leave personal messages. The guest book option will we hope encourage more visitors to share their memories of Heatherwood. It will also provide the option for long lost friends to contact each other.

The league of friends radio service will celebrate 30 years of service this June. Plans are already under way to provide a month of special programs re-capturing the sounds of the seventies. Presenters will provide trivia and information to remind patients about life in the seventies. The service was originally launched on the 10th June 1976 for more info visit

The league of friends has set aside £48,000 to be used for a new cardiac monitoring unit and the provision of a discharge lounge for patients at Heatherwood. The lounge and cardiac unit on ward 10 will be ready by the end of April and staff and patients will benefit for years to come.

December 2005
An annual event for the league of friends is to assist with financial support for the wards and Departments on the run up to Christmas. This year is no exception, chairman of the league Mr. Roy Ryman along with Pauline Richardson from the trolley shop recently presented special donations to each ward and department.
In addition this year a cheque for £500 was given to the catering department to arrange for some extra cheer for staff and patients on Christmas Day.
April 2005
On Friday 29th April The league Chairman Mr Roy Ryman will present to Heatherwood And Wexham Park Trust Chairman Ruth Watts A cheque for £12,000 this will be used to fund the many gifts agreed to be funded in this years gift allocation.

2005 Gifts
This raises the funding for the projects on the hospital to over £183,000 pounds. The league has been carrying out it's charitable deeds at the hospital since 1958.
January 2005
Wards and departments at Heatherwood are to benefit from the leagues bi-annual grant. The league has set aside £12,000 for gifts to the hospital. The league has already approved funding for a relatives bereavement room at £693.91.The league has also agreed to fund blinds for the occupational therapy unit £2120.

Peter Lapper former patient to Heatherwood in the 1940's and 50's recently contacted the league to comment on the web site and also part with some photo's and recollections of his stay.

An annual event for the league is to provide a small financial gift to wards and dept's. The money can be used to brighten the stay of patients over the Christmas period.
This gesture by the league was first started in the 1960's. £750 was recently distributed.
April 2004
The league recently received emails from former staff members who recall their time at Heatherwood during the 1970's. Anne Easthope Yvonne Chandler ( Chan )fondly remember their time at Heatherwood.

The league's radio service was connected to the hospicom bedhead system recently. This now allows patients to listen to the service in stereo.

The league has received an email from a former member of staff who now lives in New Zealand. Jean Taylor fondly remembers her days at heatherwood and her families association with Heatherwood dating back to the 1920's.
