My wife has just wet herself laughing at your web page picture of Kenneth Kendall and Pat Bidgood because, my ugly mug is in the background.

I was only doing my one hour stint on ward 4's tombola and not expecting to see myself all these years later on the www and I see that you have only titled yourself as radio Heatherwood PA engineer.

It's the 4th anniversary of the death of my mother, Jean Stewart, who was cared for so well in Ward 12 by the nurses at Heatherwood.

I just want to say what a comfort it is for me today, to find your web site.

I usually donate to the ward itself but I will send a small donation to the League in memory of my mother.

Undertook orthopaedic training at Heatherwood in 1983. Fond memories of a lovely couple of years there under the tutelage of Peter Milledge.

Lived in Heatherwood House and was great friends with all the Filipinos and their exotic cooking. Long hot summers spent playing tennis and swimming in the pool we thought it would never end !

Miss Hogan was the home sister and always kept a stern eye on our goings on. We were honorary members of the British Legion next door and could often be found propping up the bar! Sue Piper and Alison Green were the sisters on Ward 4 and 20 years later still practice what they taught me in regards to patient care.

June Gell had trained during the 50s and Hilly who was a Registered Fever Nurse in the 40s! Happy days.

I was a cadet nurse 71 to 72 I think. Can anyone remember the lady who was in charge of out patients in the records department? Fond memories of the year I spent there.

Still in touch with three other cadets from that year. Myself and Ann Meaton went to St Thomas hospital in London to train as nurses. I can remember watching the filming of the carry on film in our lunch break. Happy days

I was very pleased to find your web site yesterday when looking for information on Heatherwood Hospital during the 1950's.

My aunt, Miss Doris Howes, was Matron at Heatherwood between 1949 and 1965. I came across a report of her retirement and information about the Chapel.

You may like to know that Doris is now living in Cambridgeshire and will be celebrating her 97th birthday on May 7th.

If you have any archives on her work at Heatherwood I would be pleased to hear from you.

My mother who is now 93 ( Evelyn Holmes) spent 6months at Heatherwood in the late 1920's.

She is always talking about it as she has many fond memories.

Some months ago I found a web site with 80 years of history of the hospital 1923-2003, which I wanted to get a good print of as it has some photo's of the old treatment rooms and my Mum would like to see them, as she recalls these. However I now cannot find this web site and wondered if anyone could help me to locate the photo's.

It would be very much appreciated if this information if found could be sent as soon as is possible due to the age of my Mum.

I was an orthopaedic student nurse at Heatherwood 1967-9.

I came across your web site quite by accident and thank you for the trip down memory lane. Perhaps at the time you really do not realise what a wonderful time you are having, looking back it was a marvellous experience.

I remember Matron Esme Wadmore ( Who always seemed to know what we students were up to) nurses home warden Mrs Gordon and especially fond memories of Freda Underwood who was at the PTS, Sister Cahill our tutor and Mr Healey Tutor.

I lost touch with my set, Maggie Batchelor, Margaret Horn, Linda Gearing, Ann Morris, Trudy Arundel, Valerie Martin, Celia Evans, Rosemary Job, Jane Hobbs, Melanie Fysh. Wonder where they are now.

I recently came across some photos taken Xmas 68 when I was in theatre. The nurses decorated their dresses with tinsel and accompanied Father Xmas round the wards.

We worked hard but always had fun especially getting into the nurses ! home after lock up (only one late pass to midnight a week) We were also cared about, the NHS is very different now. Thank you for such good web site.

I too was a student from 67-69. I remember my time at Ascot with fondness.

I arrived as a 17 year old girl from Yorkshire, and am sure I did my growing up at Heatherwood.

Like Joan Lipscombe I can remember some names, and can still see the matron in my head walking her corgi with that big table cloth hat on her head.

Farewell old friend, my family grew up under your wings, you made friends with plenty of staff over the years, you made patients stay a little more pleasant.

Saturday 3rd December 07.00 the computer play out system choose a choral version of morning has broken, at 09.00 the final hour programme played the best of the patients chart of 1986.

It was a grey overcast cloudy sky, as we turn the key to switch you off after the news at 10.03, the clouds parted and the sun shone threw the reception window for a couple of minutes, before disappearing again.

We have to remember the hospital was originally built in 1922 when medical knowledge was a lot less than it is today. The design of the hospital reflected this, as open air was seen as an aid to the cure for TB. Over the the next 100 years the hospital has suffered from under funding and medical advances which has deemed the hospital too expensive to repair or renovate. I for one will miss the serenity of being able to sit in the gardens and enjoy the wildlife. In the 60's I remember being a patient on the childrens ward and was wheeled out onto the verandah during sunny days. I have had a long association with the hospital in one way or another and will miss the wonderful staff and patients who I came into contact with. They did look after our grandparents parents and our children and we should not forget the good service the hospital delivered to the local community.

Wasn't dearly loved by everyone - I have awful memories of that place as a child, being wheeled to surgery through open corridors on a cold November night. It's easy to look at things from the past with rose tinted glasses. I hope the new hospital is much better.

Looking on Ancestry.com it appears that she stayed in the local area as on the 1939 Register Edna was a Ward Sister at King Edward VII Hospital and on the electoral roll for 1963 & 65 she was living close to Old Windsor Hospital.

I started there in 1974 just as Matron's became Nursing Officers. At that time you could training at 17, we also got up to antics to avoid the night curfew 😅
